It's OVER!

Fall sports that is! While the games are great fun to watch, the practices were starting to take it's toll on me. With Jon, Tucker AND Tanner playing, it was a lot of work for dear old mom. Jon had football M-F with games on Thursday. Tucker and Tanner had practices on Thursdays with games on Saturdays. It was a tight, hectic, all over the place schedule for me but I did the best I could. I am SO glad it's over. I think they all had fun. I'm not sure if Tuck and Tan will play soccer again next year even though they seemed to enjoy it. They seem ambivalent about the whole thing. Oh well, I guess we don't need to discuss it now anyways. Jon probably won't play football next year. He had SO many injuries this year that he only got to play in ONE actual game. Luckily they do a 5th quarter where all the rest of the team gets a chance to play. I think it was a humbling experience for my boy who always wanted to go pro.

Me, I'm very much looking forward to lazy nights at home, curled up with my guys either playing a game (I've been stocking up on board games from thrift stores) or watching a good flick. I am already planning some fabulous family meals. It was next to impossible to sit down together with our previous schedule. Tucker and Tanner are still doing karate classes which was only adding to my stress level. It was just a bit too much all at once. Ahhh, to have a minute to breathe. How relaxing!

What about you and your family? Do you or your kids participate in sports? Are they over yet? Are you looking forward to the free time or are you signing them up for the next busy activity?

I hear you about the sports! Football for our two older ones ended last weekend...finally!
They can't wait for soccer in the spring...I can-it's always a lot of running around. My five year old is also in tap dancing...and he loves it-that goes all year...
I just read your story on your baby brother-I can't believe it! That was so sad-I don't know how parents live through that-you must have a broken heart that never heals...and you as a sister-I just feel so bad for all of you-my heart goes out to you!

The Twilight Books are an easy read-you can read and watch the kids at the same time-usually! (I can give you the first one if you want it! Email me-lorikids1@aol.com)It would be a pleasure to share my guilty pleasure!

Yours are over and ours are just beginning! My oldest is the only one of "sports age" and he's just started wrestling which is taking up 3 nights a week.

Enjoy your time off from sports!

Enjoy your break! Sounds like you have a crazy schedule to keep up with. I have two boys, the oldest is 2 1/2 so I still have some time to keep my sanity. :)
I read your past posts and was so sad to hear about your brother. what a difficult thing to go through. i nearly lost my baby sister two months ago after she was run over. I can't imagine if I had. It sounds like you and your family are very strong.
Oh by the way...congrats on your SITS feature! That is how I found your blog. :)

I bet you are ready for a little break. My two didn't play any sports this year, My sister's two oldest boys (6th and 7th grades) played football. They had their last game Saturday, it was their Superbowl. They were undefeated the whole season.....yeaaaaaaa!

Have a great Monday!

My kids are in track. One does hurdles and the other throws shotput and discus. Last year they were in middle school and high school so practices were at different times and places--same with meets. This year they are in 9th and 10th grade so it will be easier:) It was SOOOO hectic. I feel your pain! My daughter is trying out soccer for the first time this spring.

I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! I have 3 boys and they all play sports. We lived and breathe SPORTS! We had Varsity Football, Youth Football and Fall Baseball this year and I feel like my life went by in a blur from August until last Saturday, when we had out last game. My younger two wanted to play basketball and we just had to say "no" this year. We need a break from all the craziness and a free weekend would be nice too. Spring Baseball comes up soon enough!!

Love your blog and I respect the heck out of you with 5 Boys!

Becky said...

Wow! I don't know how to did it! I only had one in football, and it was very hard to get thru the fall. If any of the other kids had something going on it was very hard! Our football team also had a rule that during practice you had to stay. SO I was usually at the field chasing after a baby and 7 yo for 2 hours a night!
Coming over from SITS! Congrats!

Stopping by from SITS.

I'm so glad soccer season is over. It's been nice not to have to race around during the week and finally have our weekends back. 3 practices + 2 Saturday games = 1 tired mama.

We are taking a break until spring soccer. We all need a time out.

My girls' aren't involved in anything at this point - it all costs too much $$... but I'm okay with it actually...

Enjoy your downtime and game times!!!!!

We truly don't know what to do with ourselves. The last soccer game for both our girls was yesterday. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! What shall we do? Rollerskating? Movies? Board games. Maybe just... be... lazy! Imagine that: soccer practice-free Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and game-free Saturdays! YES!

Happy SITS day! Have fun with your newfound freedom (until Spring, that is!)

I'm coming on over from SITS! Congrats on your SITS day =)

I have 3 boys (Well including my Hubby, he's as much one of the boys as the little guys are) and I can't imagine having 5! But I'll bet you guys have non stop fun at your house!!

We don't do sport here. I just can't take it and luckily my boys are 6 and almost 8. The 6 year old does gymnastics, but the almost 8 year old prefers books and reading to anything athletic. And I totally encourage that!! That way I can keep my sanity!

Ginny said...

Happy SITS day. My girls dance, but a lot of their friends do sports. I couldn't keep up with the schedule. With dance, I know where I have to be, lol.

WTG on your SITs day! With our youngest son, we let him choose his sports and he is now doing HS wrestling and golf.

He seems to like bothe and we have to keep an eye on grades, as he can get distracted during the season.

Happy SITS Day! I thought I was busy with two boys, but FIVE?! Goodness, you deserve some sort of Mom Award. :) Mine are 8 and almost-three, but still, my 8 y/o has been bitten by the activities bug. He's settled into karate, which right now is only one night a week, but we have scouts and church activities as well. He keeps us hopping! :)

Our kids are in sports, and we are just getting up and running for football season here in Florida (it is now "cooler" weather- ie: not searing heat! LOL) i am always relieved at the end of the season to have our Saturdays back. We usually take a little break and don't do every sport/activity year round. I stopped by from SITS, it was fun to read your blog!

My brother and I did sports when we were younger and I remember how crazy things were for my parents. I'm sure they were more than happy to have those lazy nights, too!

My son is 5, and hasn't expressed an interest in organized sports...yet.

Happy SITS Day! Five boys...hope you have an ipod. I always say, boys are noisy people. I adore them.

Sports--we are CONSTANTLY weighing our need for family time against our kids' need for activity. We definitely don't seek out more commitments, but have found that some are definitely more demanding than others. Our son played football for the first (and I hope the last) time this year, and it was SO hectic! But I LOVE that 5th quarter idea!

TisforTonya said...

We kept our 5 out of sports this fall... life was just too crazy for all of that... of course, Spring brings Dance, Gymnastics, Soccer, and Baseball... ugh - free time is about to end around here!!

Stopping by from SITS - congrats - I of course had to read down your whole page... love your blog!

Happy SITS day!
I completely understand your situation, and I only have two Indians to keep quartered! We're basketballing at present. That should continue for another month and a half and then will give way to baseball and softball season. It IS crazy, but fun, and you miss it when the season is over. Besides, what else would you do? Lay around on the sofa and eat bon bons while the husband reads the paper and the children play quietly in their rooms? HAH! Right!

{leah} said...

WOW!! I thought my life was busy with three boys (ages 2,3,4).

I opeted out of sports for my 4 year old this year (even thought he was asking to play soccer) because the husband is overseas... we'll see about next yera when I have back up.

Whew - another sports season come and gone and you lived to tell about it! ;)
